De belangrijkste Award ceremonie staat voor de deur en hier zijn dan de nominaties. De ceremonie die vroeger ooit nog bij ons werd uitgezonden, maar ondertussen geen plaats meer krijgt tijdens de reguliere zendtijd, en dit omwille van het prijskaartje, maar wel nog te zien op betaal zenders. Maar voor de liefhebbers is er nog altijd internet waar je de uitzending wel via streaming kan bijwonen. Lees deze post voor meer uitleg.  Wat betreft de selectie, zoals men had kunnen vermoeden zal het een mexican-stand-off worden tussen Avatar (2009) van James Camerons en het Irak-oorlogsdrama van Kathryn Bigelow The Hurt Locker (2009) (nota bene: de ex-vrouw van Cameron). Beide sleepten negen nominaties in de wacht. Voor het eerst sinds 1943 werden tien in plaats van de gebruikelijke vijf films genomineerd voor de hoofdprijs van Beste Film. Geen Belgische film bij de Buitenlandse inzendingen, maar dat was uiteindelijk te verwachten. De Academy Awards worden op 7 maart uitgereikt.
